The odds are against him. He's been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined - every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute . . . and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.

What a great expansion of the Hunger Games storytelling. I hope there are more books linking the timeframes between these two time periods. Very good book. Well done.
  • Amazing!!!!

I loved it. It was interesting to see how President Snow became the infamous character in the hunger games trilogy. I learned a lot about the capital and the first war. She describes everything perfectly. I couldn’t put it down. I hope Suzanne Collins writes more hunger games universe stories because I would read them all.

I have been a HUGE Hunger Games and Suzanne Collins fan since the release of the first book. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a true masterpiece. The same incredible writing we know and love from Collins. In TBOSAS, Collins shows us even more of the world that started the trilogy and sheds light on the history of Panem and how Coryo Snow became the villain we all love to hate. A MUST READ for anyone who is a fan of the trilogy!!!!

This is a fitting book no matter what stage in the Hunger Games you are. Whether it’s your first, or coming back after reading the first 3 the book will flow smoothly. Well worth the read!

Three and a half stars ⭐️! I really enjoyed being back in this world! Such an interesting background story on a young Coriolanus Snow. It left me feeling such a huge range of emotions, especially sympathy for the most hated president in Panem! I have many questions though after finishing this! What we need now is to know what happens between this book and the Hunger Games trilogy!!! Please write more!

It was fun to revisit the Hunger Games universe but the story had a lot of plot elements that were just not believable

Having recently read the Hunger Games books for the first time and with the voices of long-standing Hunger Games fans in my ear, I tried to not get my hopes up too high. While I did not know entirely what to expect with this prequel I was still very excited to read it. It took me a week to get through the book and I have to say I am impressed. Not many authors are able to write a convincing prequel without it looking too much like a set up for the original story but Collins manages to not only set up the main character’s development but also expands the incredibly fascinating world of Panem even more to an extend I did not expect. While the beginning is rather slow moving it soon starts to pick up and shows the entire development of Coriolanus Snow into the ruthless future president of Panem. Anyway, a wonderful read for young adults and adults alike.
